Welcome to our weekly column, News is Good, where we feature positive news about the LGBTQ+ community. Too much of what we see in mainstream media coverage focuses on the challenges we face and not the celebrations. Here are five things we’re excited about this week.

Billy Eichner’s gay rom-com “Bros” hits theaters. The film, written and starring Eichner and Luke Macfarlane, premieres today in movie theaters around the country. A hit so far with critics, “Bros” could make serious waves at the box office. Eichner and Macfarlane sat down with News is Out member publication Philadelphia Gay News to talk about the groundbreaking film with a huge queer cast.

Anthony Bowens becomes the first out gay wrestler to win an All Elite Wrestling championship. Bowens, along with The Acclaimed tag team partner Max Caster, took home the belt Sept. 21 and released an inspiring (and slightly NSFW) message to fans via his social media channels. Congrats to Bowens on his historic win.

Virgin Atlantic updates its gender identity policy with a splashy video featuring ally and icon Michelle Visage. The airline has updated its uniform policy to include options pronoun pins and encourages employees to dress in a uniform that “best represents them.” Visage teamed up with the airline to showcase the Vivienne Westwood-designed uniforms and champion the new inclusive policy.

DC’s Whitman-Walker Health receives $280,000 grant. The Washington, DC-based LGBTQ+ community health and legal organization was recently awarded the grant by the city to continue their vital support of the community. The grant will help fund legal services for LGBTQ+ immigrants and those seeking asylum.

Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror” debuts on Shudder. Horror streaming channel Shudder’s four-part documentary series is here and queer and delves into the history of LGBTQ+ characters and stories in the horror genre. The series also features queer and trans voices like actor Lea Delaria, screenwriter/director Kevin Williamson and Elvira herself, Cassandra Peterson.
