Yvette Miley, Executive Vice President at NBCUniversal News Group, has been honored with the 2024 Leadership Award by NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists. This accolade recognizes her impactful efforts to enhance diversity and inclusivity, especially pertaining to LGBTQ+ representation in the media.
The award will be presented during the ‘Headlines & Headliners‘ fundraising event in New York City on April 18th, hosted by NLGJA. Adam Pawlus, the Executive Director, commended Miley’s dedication.
“Yvette’s unwavering commitment to amplifying LGBTQ+ stories has profoundly enriched our newsrooms, making her a beacon of inspiration,” said Pawlus.
Miley’s role as Executive Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion involves overseeing recruitment, training and editorial initiatives across NBCUniversal’s four networks. She has a 33-year tenure with the company, with previous leadership roles in Miami/Fort Lauderdale and Birmingham, AL.
Her career is decorated with numerous awards, including three Emmy Awards, ten Edward R. Murrow Awards, a DuPont-Columbia Award and a Peabody Award. Additional honors include Adweek’s Pride Stars Award, the University of Florida’s Distinguished Alumna Award and the Chuck Stone Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.
Miley is also an active member in various journalism and professional organizations, and serves on boards such as ColorComm, the Stonewall Community Foundation and the University of Florida’s College of Journalism Dean Advisory Board.
Raised in Riviera Beach, FL, Miley is a graduate of Suncoast High School and the University of Florida. Her career trajectory from local newsrooms to a top executive position at NBCUniversal highlights her pioneering influence in journalism.
This NLGJA award, supported by Randy Lovely and the Gannett Foundation, underscores the significant role leaders like Miley play in fostering a more inclusive media landscape.
