This year, the Heritage of Pride organization celebrates 40 years as custodians of the iconic New York City Pride March. Throughout the month, culminating in the June 30 parade and festival, the organization is poised to honor its legacy of advocating for equality and celebrating diversity with events designed to empower the queer community, particularly in light of the adversities faced by trans youth and their families.
โThis year marks the 40th anniversary of Heritage of Pride becoming the official organizers of this iconic event, and we are honored to continue our legacy of advocating for equality and celebrating diversity,โ said Sue Doster, co-chair of Heritage of Pride.ย
This emphasis on legacy and advocacy sets the tone for a Pride Month that promises a full calendar of events, encompassing festivals and parties, all aimed at fostering queer joy and unity.
Kicking off the festivities on June 22 is TEAZE, the 21+ queer party experience, inviting attendees to dance the day away in one of New York’s most inclusive party venues.
Additionally, Bliss Days, on June 30, aims to celebrate โlove, light and appreciation for womxn in our community.โ
Highlighting the importance of supporting LGBTQIA+ youth, the organization has planned a Youth Pride celebration at the South Street Seaport Museum on June 29. This event is designed to offer a safe space for empowerment, education, and community building, addressing the critical need for supportive environments where LGBTQIA+ youth can explore their identities free from discrimination and isolation.
PrideFest, celebrates its 30th anniversary on June 30, featuring a variety of experiences through StageFest, FamilyFest, CommunityFest and FoodFest. These events aim to amplify the voices of the LGBTQIA+ community, promote inclusivity from an early age, and engage with organizations and initiatives dedicated to LGBTQIA+ rights and social justice.
Dosterโs call to action resonates deeply as the organization gears up for this year’s events.
โAt this crucial time, we should all rally together for LGBTQIA+ rights and for the freedom to love and live authentically. Join us, advocates and allies alike, in solidarity. Let’s support the Queer community, each other, and strive for equal rights and liberty across all identities.โ
This 2024 Pride promises not only to commemorate the past but also to inspire the present and future. For more information and to support Heritage of Pride, visitors are encouraged to explore the event details at www.nycpride.org.
