Our weekly column, News is Good, features positive news about the LGBTQ+ community. Too much of what we see in mainstream media coverage focuses on the challenges we face and not the celebrations. Here are a few things we’re excited about this week.

Callen-Lorde is seeking applicants for LGBTQ+ fellowship. LGBTQ+ health care pioneer Callen-Lorde Community Health Center is offering its inaugural Keith Haring Nurse Practitioner Postgraduate Fellowship. The New York-based fellowship is open to nurse practitioners from anywhere in the U.S. Catherine Trossello, Director of the fellowship, says, “If you are a family or adult-geri nurse practitioner anywhere in the country and you are interested in learning how to care for LGBTQ+ populations we’d love to see your application to join the fellowship.”

Gay love story musical “Jack and Aiden” to premiere in Austin, Texas. The new musical by Lane Michael Stanley and Tova Katz starring Justin P. Lopez and Laura Leo Kelly opens Nov. 30 at the Ground Floor Theatre. According to the synopsis, “When Aiden first meets Jack, it’s through the transactional world of gay male hookup apps– Aiden’s first exploration since transitioning. But as the two spend more time together, things get complicated – they must navigate their grief, recovery and trauma and find out if they can hold one another’s human messiness.” Tickets are available now, and the performance will be available to stream Dec. 14-15.

Kate McKinnon will return to Saturday Night Live as a first-time host. McKinnon returns to SNL to make her hosting debut. As a long-time cast member, McKinnon won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her work on the show. She’ll be joined by musical guest Billie Eilish for the season closer Dec. 16.

Indian Supreme Court will consider an appeal of marriage equality ruling. After initially ruling against the request to allow same-sex marriage in India in October, the Supreme Court will consider a petition to appeal the ruling in open court. According to Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, “Apart from this, majority and minority, both views have held that there is discrimination against LGBTQ+ couples,” said Rohatgi. “If there is discrimination, there also has to be a remedy. This is why we have pressed for an open court hearing.”
