GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’ announced the winners of the 15th Dorian Film Awards. The Dorian Awards recognize excellence in film and are voted on by the 500 member strong organization of LGBTQ+ entertainment writers and professionals. Along with standard categories for film of the year and director, the Dorians recognize the best in LGBTQ+ feature films and documentaries, as well as awards recognizing the contributions of LGBTQ+ actors and allies.
“All of Us Strangers” directed and written by Andrew Haigh and starring Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal took the top prize of Film of the Year. The film follows a screenwriter (Scott) who begins a relationship with his neighbor (Mescal), while dealing with long buried grief about the loss of his parents. Not all is as it seems however in the twisty romantic fantasy.
Also taking home multiple awards is “Anatomy of a Fall” written and directed by Justine Triet. The film stars Sandra Huller as a bisexual writer whose husband is found dead from a fall and the subsequent trial she undergoes in the French court system.
This year, film legend Jodie Foster took home the honor of Timeless Star which honors “an exemplary career marked by character, wisdom and wit.” Previous winners include Sir Ian McKellen, Angela Lansbury and Jane Fonda.
Star of “Bottoms” and “The Bear” Ayo Edebiri was recognized as a rising star in the industry with the We’re Wilde About You! award named in honor of writer Oscar Wilde.
Colman Domingo, star of Netflix’s “Rustin” about the life of Bayard Rustin, took home the GALECA LGBTQIA+ Film Trailblazer Award for “creating art that inspires empathy, truth and equity.”
