The two named victims of Monday morning’s shooting at Venture-N, a gay bar in midtown Tucson, were known as regulars at the establishment.
Venture-N has long been an established space for the leather and fetish communities, but in recent years has evolved into a gathering place for Tucson’s older queer community.
One of the victims, 33-year-old Cameron Davis Capara, was a regular at the bar and a photographer within the fetish community. The other victim, 42-year-old Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, was described by friends as a pillar of the queer community.
Police said the suspect, 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay, was carrying a list of LGBTQ+ businesses, according to a police press release.
Investigators believe Ceesay went to Venture-N near Sixth Avenue and Speedway Boulevard and got into an argument in the parking lot with Siqueiros and Capara. Police said Ceesay shot both men, killing them at the scene. Ceesay was also shot and later died at a local hospital.
A person with knowledge of the incident who agreed to speak with LOOKOUT said the shooting took place after midnight, with people inside the bar hearing multiple shots outside.
After the shooting, he said, one of the men made his way into the bar on his own, staggered inside and said, “I’ve been shot.” That man later died inside the bar.
On Monday afternoon, remnants of the crime scene were still apparent in the bar’s parking lot. A Mercedes SUV with a bullet hole remained parked out front, while bloody handprints were visible on walls inside the bar.
